Dan has been with Emera for over three decades. During this time, he has held a number of engineering, supervisory and senior management roles including Executive Vice President, Major Renewable and Alternative Energy; President and Chief Operating Officer of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Emera Inc.; and President and Chief Operating Officer of Emera Utility Services.

Dan is a past member of the executive committee for Cigre Canada – International Council on Large Electric Systems. He previously served on both the Transmission and Distribution Councils for the Canadian Electricity Association and is a past Board Member of the Cape Breton Partnership.

Dan has a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the Technical University of Nova Scotia (Dalhousie University).

 

 

Dr. Nancy Mathis

Independent Director

Nancy Mathis joined the Emera New Brunswick Board in January 2021. She is the Executive Director of the Wallace McCain Institute (WMI). In this role she supports the next generation of senior business leaders in the Atlantic Provinces to meet the complex challenges facing the region.  Nancy is an experienced entrepreneur as the co-founder and innovative force behind Mathis Instruments.  Through her role at WMI role she combines her own entrepreneurial and innovation experiences with her teaching background at the University of New Brunswick.

Nancy’s personal mission to “build and nurture the most highly connected community of entrepreneurial leaders in North America” speaks to her commitment of connecting people and creating meaningful relationships, while her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering supports her calling to design practical systems, programs and frameworks necessary to undertake such a mission.

Dr. Mathis has been recognized on a national scale with awards in innovation, entrepreneurship and engineering as well as for supporting others in those fields. She was honoured with the $100,000 Ernest C. Manning Innovation Award for the top innovation in Canada in 2003 and the R&D 100 Award issued to the top 100 innovative products worldwide in 1999.

 

 

Chief Arren Sock

Independent Director
Elsipogtog, New Brunswick





Chief Arren Sock has been a pivotal figure in the leadership of the Elsipogtog First Nation since 2012, serving as Chief and demonstrating his commitment to the community's growth. His journey in elected leadership began in 2005 when he was elected as a councillor.

In October 2022, Chief Sock joined the Emera New Brunswick Board, bringing his extensive experience and forward-thinking approach. He is brings his innovative contributions to community economics, having spearheaded several significant business projects. These include the establishment of Elsipogtog's first band-owned grocery store and Pharmasave, as well as the expansion of the community's seafood processing plant, McGraw Seafood, in Tracadie-Sheila, where he has served as Chairman of the Board since 2012.

Chief Sock's leadership is characterized by his strategic vision and ability to identify projects that generate substantial benefits for his community. His deep connection to his Mi’kmaq culture is evident through his avid participation in sun dancing and his passionate engagement with youth, elders, community professionals, and grassroots organizations.

 

 

Mike Roberts

Chief Human Resource Officer, Emera Inc.





Mike Roberts joined the Emera New Brunswick Board in Fall 2024, he was appointed Chief Human Resource Officer at Emera in 2014.

In this role he oversees the organization’s people strategy and works closely with operating company leadership on talent management including performance management, leadership development, inclusion & diversity, total rewards and talent acquisition. In 2020, he led the pandemic response for the organization, collaborating with all of Emera’s businesses. He is also responsible for the Office of the Chief Digital Officer for Emera Inc.

Prior to joining Emera, Mike served as Vice President, Corporate Development for Irving Shipbuilding where he was responsible for communications, human resources, labour relations, health, safety and security.

Earlier in his career, Mike held senior positions with telecommunications leader Bell Aliant, including Vice President, Human Resources and Vice President, Regulatory and Government Affairs.

Mike is active in the community and currently serves as the Vice-Chair for crown corporation Develop Nova Scotia (formerly Waterfront Development), the Student Affairs and the Audit Committees for Mount Allison University and the Human Resources Committee for Nova Scotia Health Authority. He has previously served on the board of COVE, the board of the Nova Scotia Heart & Stroke Foundation and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.

Mike is a graduate of Mount Allison University and obtained his Chartered Accountant (CPA, CA) designation in 1991.

 

 

Andrew McCullogh

Vice President Origination





As Vice-President, Origination, Andrew has overall responsibility for Emera Energy’s power and gas business development, as well as the general management of the business as a Member of its Executive Team.

Andrew joined EE in 2010 and took on progressively more senior positions within the business, including commercial oversight of EE’s former equity interests in Northeast Wind, the sale of Bayside Power, and negotiation of long-term energy management and offtake agreements. He leads a team of five, based across Emera Energy’s market areas, specifically Halifax, Tampa, the greater New York Area and Fort Worth. Andrew has over 20 years of experience in both regulated and deregulated energy markets. Prior to Emera Energy, he worked with NB Power in their Energy Marketing group; and with TD Securities in Toronto. Andrew’s commercial acumen, strategic insight, extensive knowledge of the power market and dedication to customer service are highly valued by Emera Energy's client base.

Andrew is a graduate of Acadia University. He is an active volunteer in the Halifax community and currently serves as Chair of Ronald McDonald House Charities Atlantic.

 

 

John MacLean

Corporate Secretary, Emera New Brunswick Senior Counsel, Emera Inc.
Halifax, Nova Scotia

 

John became the Corporate Secretary for Emera New Brunswick in 2018. Before joining Emera’s legal team in 2007, he was Corporate Counsel and Assistant Corporate Secretary with the Halifax International Airport Authority and Corporate Counsel for Quest Software (Canada).

John’s in-house corporate practice focuses mainly on financing, public disclosure and corporate governance. He has worked on various projects since joining Emera, including Brunswick Pipeline’s construction, regulatory approval and financing, the Maritime Link federal loan guarantee and financing and the TECO Energy acquisition and financing.

John is a graduate of St. Thomas University (BA) and the University of New Brunswick (LLB). He is a member of the Nova Scotia Barrister’s Society and the Canadian Bar Association.
